5Galaxy Tab

I just got this a couple of days ago, and been playing around with it since. I can't put it down! Didn't charge it until after two days. It's amazing how light and portable it is. With my commute, it's an excellent device to carry with me. Much lighter than any iPads, Xoom, or any other upcoming Honeycomb devices. The price, well, it's EXCELLENT!! I use it mostly for reading books and browsing. Wherever I go now, there's mostly WiFi, so this is perfect. The screen clarity is AMAZING! Much much better than Motorola Xoom.

Galaxy tab feels like a conveniently oversized Android phone, and that is a GOOD thing, because of my familiarity with Android phones. The icons look conveniently big now. Unlike Honeycomb, most applications run great because it's technically a software for phone. Pandora, book reading apps, Pulse, all run great!

I think this is an excellent device.

Do not compare this with an iPad (which I do own). They are completely different in apps and interface. I still don't understand why people keep comparing the two, and always in search of an 'iPad Killer'. iPad is a great product in its own merit, and so is Galaxy Tab 7 WiFi. I'd rather that these manufacturers just make products that perform well, instead of trying to kill others.

Update:

It does have GPS antenna and it functions well. I did a turn-by-turn navigation yesterday, and it worked perfectly. The trick is, you'd need an internet connection for the map to do navigation. I used a phone WiFi hotspot.

The internal memory is 16 gB, and the RAM is 512. It does not come with a Micro SD card but it does have the slot. So if you want to add the storage, you would have to buy your own and put it into the Micro SD slot.

I have not tried bluetooth yet. I might try that today.

5Galaxy Tab

I have had my Galaxy Tab for several months now and for the most part it is a great tablet! It is my first experience with a tablet of any kind, but I also had the Samsung Epic phone when I got the Galaxy Tab. One thing I loved is the layout of the screens is the same in the Galaxy Tab as in Samsung smartphones so it was super easy to use because I was already used to Samsung.

I use my Tab mostly for checking email, browsing the internet, and reading Kindle books. The only problem I have really had with it is when the Kindle app updates it deregisters and reregisters my Tab as a Kindle device and I have to delete all my books and add them again before I can read them. I think that is a problem with the app and not with the Tab though so I am still giving it 5 stars. I personally do not use a whole lot of apps on it, besides one to read and edit Word documents, CamScanner, Gmail, Kindle, TweetDeck, Facebook, and Paypal, and none of those are really apps that would test the speed of the tablet but I would say it runs pretty fast. It loads my apps quickly and they rarely (if ever) freeze up. I do have some problems with TweetDeck freezing up but it also did that on my Samsung Epic and now on my HTC phone so I also think that is an app problem, not the tablet.

When I got my Tab I was using it on the Sprint network and it worked pretty well. When I moved to college Sprint wasn't available here so I cancelled Sprint and have been using it as WiFi only. It is very easy to connect to the campus internet and to my own home network. It also automatically switches between the two when I go from my apartment to campus. And of course WiFi is much faster than using the Sprint 3G network. I rarely use it for internet anywhere that I don't have WiFi. I use it at home, school, my family's house... all of which I can connect to WiFi networks. I use it at doctor's appointments to read, and I don't need WiFi for that if I already have the book downloaded. Signing up with Sprint or another carrier might be a better idea if you use your Tab on the go a lot though.

As I said, I don't do much on it besides check email, browse the internet, and read, so I haven't really tried out many of the preinstalled features like GPS. I do use the camera a lot and it takes pretty good pictures... of course not as good as a real camera would, but most phones and tablets do not take as good of pictures as a real camera anyway. I can easily send pictures in messages, upload to Facebook, upload using TweetDeck, email pictures, etc. I'm not a big fan of onscreen keyboards but this one is plenty big and easy to use without hitting the wrong letters. It is also SWYPE enabled but I prefer to type in the letters individually rather than use SWYPE. The tab also has 3 home screens, you drag your finger across to go to a different screen, giving you plenty of space to put apps on the home screen. I use one page for my most used apps, one page for widgets such as a weather widget and calendar widget, and one page for apps I don't use as often. Oh, also, the calendar on your tab can connect to your Google calendar, so I get all my reminders on my Tab that I entered in the calendar on my computer, so that is pretty nice! It is also easy to add things to a specific Google calendar if you have more than one account. For instance I have my personal Gmail account, and then my blog's Gmail account. I can add stuff to either account's calendar easily from my phone and specify which calendar it is going on.

Overall I highly recommend the Galaxy Tab. I actually have mine listed for sale right now though, only because I want to get the Kindle Fire. From everything I've read about the Kindle Fire it is NOT really to replace a tablet, but considering mostly all I do on my Tab is check email and read the Kindle Fire seems good enough for me. As I mentioned there are issues with the Kindle App deregistering and reregistering my Tab when I update and that can get old considering how much I use the Kindle App so I am leaning towards getting an actual Kindle. I also want to take advantage of the lending library which you cannot do with the Kindle App. If you are looking for a high performance tablet though, go with the Galaxy Tab!
